No pain, no pain. Wait. What?

get regular

Attention, this week's post is directed toward males of the human species.

According to the American Academy of Family Physicians, 55 percent of men fail to receive a regular check up each year. Now don't look at your shoes. Keep your eyes on the screen — there's more.

Most guys border on obsessive about their vehicle maintenance and upkeep. You wouldn't drive around with the engine light on for a year, right? Have you thought about your body's warning lights? Aches and pains, weight gain, mood swings, fatigue and sexual dysfunction are not necessarily signs of aging. These symptoms could be the alerts flashing on the "dashboard" of your body.

We've all heard stories of the guy who died at age forty-something. I personally know of three within the last couple of years. All heart disease related. All with similar problems like stress at work, excessive weight gain, poor nutrition and no exercise. How long were their warning lights on?

Invest in your health!

Prevention, prevention, prevention. Did I mention prevention?

Exercise and nutrition are obvious keys. Eliminate foods that contain high fructose corn syrup, processed sugars, hydrogenated oil and high sodium. The body doesn't recognize most of this stuff as food! Hey, wait a minute. I didn't even mention all the artificial crap that is added in as filler, coloring and preservatives. Here's a heads up. . . what the body can't process usually ends up as toxins, free radicals and/or FAT.

Do things like taking walks during lunch, using the stairs instead of the elevator, walking the dog after work and doing push ups and crunches before going into work. Did you know that simple exercise could help maintain testosterone levels and lower stress hormones? Speaking of hormones, YES we have hormones and contrary to popular belief ours change too. So the next time your female partner has a "Bad Attitude" you'd better check yourself first, because YOU could be the horse's rear that's making her feel miserable.

Fellas, do yourself a favor. Follow your wife's, girlfriend's, sister's or mother's example. GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR. Ask if any of your warning lights are blinking. You don't have to agree with the doctor or even like what he or she is telling you, but at least you'll have an idea of where you are regarding your health.

a real man

Gentlemen, we're coming out of a no pain/no gain paradigm where "Real Men" were expected to "Man Up." Well now it's about reaping the rewards of being proactive in taking charge of one's own health. "Real Men" want to be healthy. The smarter ones get it done with assistance from a team of health care professionals.

Until next time...

one love,
chuck
